empty carts
05:13
|
|||
you spend your days smoking empty carts
you make decisions from an unsure heart
you add little value to the lives of your friends
desperately clawing to the end
spiral down, spiral down
into the truth
processes
bound by my youth
intrinsic view of another's past
i split myself just to make it last
the choir of all in our inner space
all go quiet, memories erased
spiral down, spiral down, spiral
into the truth
my actions
bound by my youth

your assumption
03:11
|
|||
all your assumptions
i cannot fulfill
separate bedrooms
gentle reminders
getting lost
firmer reminders
trapped in the maze
dizzying haze
selling and borrowing the rest of my days
follow my heart
tear it to shreds
you don't even look at me
i feel so misled
i won't follow your assumption
i will get out of your way
i won't follow your assumption
there is nothing left to say
i am not
who you thought
confusion reigns
over our scattered brains

(excerpts from letter from gaza by ghassan kanafani)
i have now received your letter, mustafa
i must thank you for everything
i must thank you
my dear friend
i will not follow you to California
you turned your face towards me from the plane
your cold lips brushed my cheek
when you looked at me again i could see your tears
my life had a gluey vacuous quality
in the middle of the year
in the middle of that year
they attacked gaza, our gaza
with bombs and flamethrowers
why didn't we leave this defeat
what is this ill-defined tie we had with gaza
we found it just as we had known it
more cramped than the mind of a sleeper
i went to my mother in our house
do you remember Nadia, my brother's daughter?
her face was calm and still
eloquent as a tortured prophet
much more than a child
she had lost her leg
when she threw herself
on top of her brothers and sisters
to protect them from the bombs and flames
never shall i forget the grief
which moulded onto her face
she could have run away, but she didn't
why?
gaza was brand new, mustafa
you and i never saw it like this
the blazing sun filled the streets with the colour of blood
the stone piled up at our living quarter had meaning
i will not come to you, mustafa
you, return to us
you, return
you, return
we are all waiting for you
(sample of mawwal sung by Dalal Abu Amneh and female choir)
NiHna bil-arid Aghsaan Zaytoon
We (Palestinians) in this land are olive branches
B'ninhini bas lanbous atraaaaaayib
We only bend to kiss the earth
(El-ard ilna wil bilad blaadina)X2

within the wind
04:37
|
|||
clutching to the surface
denigrate my purpose
all surrounding burning
inner magma churning
nights of restless slumber
connecting abstraction
comprehend the being
take apart the mind of fraction
i can feel you across the hallway
i can see you behind your doorway
within the wind of primal synapses
you'll cease to be
succumb into my never-waking dream

illusions
02:44
|
|||
view the mountain on the clearest of days
fare evasion under colony haze
don't ask about that, please
king street station to the old 41
another night staring at baseball mounds
don't ask about that, please
we're all pretending
these things exist
out of our reliance
of its non-illusions
we sustain illusions
